As the world grapples with the impact of the coronavirus, I am grateful for my recent trip to France in search of the best organic bubbles.

You might imagine that sourcing this sustainable liquid gold is like a constant New Year’s Eve party with corks popping and champagne flowing.  While it is a blast to sample the product, it’s also a major undertaking that requires strategy, and Avid Vines took on Millésime Bio 2020 with focus and determination.

The 27th edition of the world organic wine fair in Montpellier, France, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, brought together 1,300 exhibitors from more than 20 countries.  They filled four major halls in a vast conference facility, stocked with thousands of glasses, rinsing stations, information booths, an array of foodstuffs, and plenty of water.

Avid Vines went in on a mission to evaluate not only the 117 sparkling wine producers, but also the 56 without an American importer, all in search of the next sparkling selection to bring back to the States – without tariffs (sparkling wines are currently not included).

I was armed with a detailed questionnaire to document everything from tasting notes to certifications to vineyard history. It helped to have a good friend with a refined palette accompany me on the journey. Are you up for joining me next year?

During the course of three days, we sniffed, swirled, sipped, and spit (which is encouraged!) the goods from 49 producers.

We came home with a list of five producers to consider for Avid Vines.  We look forward to sharing more about how we narrowed down the list to these contenders and exactly how we will make our selection with you soon.
Until then, keep your wellness as the priority by getting good sleep, a little exercise, and pairing a meal at home with the Champagne to Experience that’s already here!

Notre Vin de Selection: Carte Perle Brut

Can’t decide which one to taste first? May we suggest the Carte Perle Brut.

Fourth-generation owner-grower Julien TIXIER puts the lesser-known grape of Champagne, Pinot Meunier, in premier position in this unique symphony of peaches and apricots along with hints of jasmine and rose petals – even strawberry shortcake.

Pairs with the beginning and end of any meal.  Think appetizers like tuna tartare, bruschetta, flatbreads, cornbread, strawberry shortcake.  Or for a next-level, you won’t believe your tastebuds experience: pair it with your favorite Indian takeout. Game over. It’s also made for brunch: avocado toast, frittata, powdered sugar French toast and a side of bacon.  Learn more.
